The most nutritive form of extracting oil is by using a wooden ‘chekku’ or ‘ghanni’ or ‘kholu’ as it is colloquially used in different regions. The drum and expeller are both made from wood to ensure the heat caused while grinding is cooled by wood as wood is a poor conductor of heat.

When the temperatures are kept below 40-50° C while grinding the nutritive value of the oil is intact.
